Wednesday, December 15..
Today is a distance learning day.
Your job will be to write a brief three paragraph report to me about what you did for the following activities. Here is what you will write in each paragraph:
Language arts: Go to three different links on this page and do the activities. Write one paragraph and tell me what you did.
Math: Go to three different links on this page and do the activities. Write one paragraph and tell me what you did.
Reading: Read your library book for at least thirty minutes. Write me a paragraph and tell me about your book.
Remember: A brief paragraph will need to have a topic sentence, three details, and a conclusion.
Now...Moms and Dads...It's a SNOW DAY!!! If you want them to work, the work is listed above. I would be happy if they spent an hour to an hour and a half maximum. The rest of the day, if you want them to PLAY all day...TODAY is the day!
Rule #1: Have fun! Make a memory together.
Rule #2: See Rule #1
If you read this message, please send me a text that says, either "boohoo" or "wahoo" depending on your opinion about today. Much love to you parents!
Week 13
We listened to Peter and the Wolf; painted our Bedroom at Arliss by Van Gogh; working on clay this week.
We are studying and practicing division. If we can do division, we will be able to do fractions much more easily.
Welcome to Week Seven!
This week we are working on decimals/dollars; we have one more Van Gogh to draw; we are also studying solubility of substances in science; and most of all...we are making sure we take advantage of the great weather outside. Please make sure your child wears shoes they can run around in comfortably (cowboy boots slip on the asphalt lol).
I appreciate all you parents are doing to raise great kids.
Week Three!??!?!?
It's been terrific so far!
We've explored mysterious black boxes in science, practiced Halloween plays, sung songs, worked on our math facts, studied place value, solved riddles, made beautiful artwork, played a game on the countries of Europe, and many more things.
Fifth grade is so FUN!!! I love my class!!!
Welcome back to school on Monday, August 16th, 2021
I am so excited to welcome your darling son or daughter into my class this year! I welcome your concerns or questions- contact me via text (for immediate response), email or phone. No apology is ever needed – if you have a question – it can be answered in a moment. Taking care of things between parents and teacher keeps things running smoothly for all.
If you leave a message with the office I sometimes don’t get that until the end of the day just as I’m walking out the door – it’s always quicker to text my cell–but please identify yourselves☺!
My contact information:
Email: [email protected] (801.856.6673 Cell) (385.646.9196 Classroom)
Classroom supplies – PLEASE DON’T BUY THEM!!!
You may have noticed – we have tables and no desks! PLEASE do not spend your money on any school supplies. I have a supply budget, thanks to your property taxes. SO DON’T SPEND YOUR MONEY TWICE! Don’t buy notebooks, paper, pencils, scissors, etc. My budget supplies EVERYTHING THEY NEED.
All of your student’s work is finished and corrected daily in class and tossed into the recycle bin. If they bring something home, that’s great, but I’m not going to bury you in papers.
Students must have empty backpacks every Monday (except for their library books). This means their backpacks should only contain the following items on a daily basis:
- Any special notes home that need to be signed.
- Library books
- Lunch (if they bring lunch to school).
- Cell Phones - please set up some type of “find my phone” app on your child’s phone. They may not keep their phones on them - they must be stored in the classroom every day.
Please! Make sure your child has shoes that lace up tightly and are good for running. We exercise daily in class. If we need a five minute break, it is nice to be able to run outside and do a lap or a race. If we get an unscheduled gym time, all children need to participate. They need those breaks – please don’t let their loose shoelaces or loose shoes prevent them from having fun.
Projects:
All of our projects will be done in class. Students may choose to do additional home reading to accomplish any extra research they may wish to do for their project. All poster-making, designing, etc. will be done in class .
Poetry, Plays, Stand-up, Music, Art, etc.
Students will be performing and memorizing performance material often in class. We are not sure how we will have parents attend performances, but we will do our best to figure out a way to make it happen. Make sure your child knows your schedule so we can set up performances for mornings or afternoons to invite your attendance and support.
General Fifth Grade content:
Literacy – Imagine It! Reading, writing, literacy comprehension and grammar.
Math - GoMath covers Fractions, Number Sense, Decimals, Geometry, etc.
Science - NGSS standards
Social Studies - Explorers, American Revolution, the Constitution, Civil War, etc.
Questions? The long version of all of this can be found at www.graniteschools.org under curriculum
Math Standards
Homework:
I am not a fan of burdensome homework. HOWEVER, there will be a page or two a night. And, if your student is not at fifth grade level, they should expect drill pages to help them catch up. I want to support parents who would love the chance to ask their child something other than, “didyoudoyourhomework?” every night. Every student is expected to read twenty minutes every night. If they want to become amazing speakers and readers, they will read out loud for that time. Homework is for review and practice, not for LEARNING. If your child is struggling with it and doesn’t understand it, please have them stop after ten minutes, and go play. Homework is not for torturing students or their parents, it is to reinforce what they have learned.
Class Dojo:
Email me as soon as you like and I will add you to my class dojo for 2021-2022 class.
Field Trips
I am not sure if there will be any field trips this year. Boohoo. BUT if things change, here is the policy:
Granite Schools has a very strict policy about field trips. THE FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP IN THE PLANNER IS NO LONGER VALID. I must have a signed parent permission slip before we leave for every field trip. Parents may not give permission over the phone.
Students may bring a water bottle.
I have a NO CANDY/NO SUGAR classroom. Anything that is in a commercial wrapper (granola bars, fruit roll-ups, etc.) is not allowed during class time (of course, they may have it for lunch!). The students will know this, and after the first week, students will not be given any warning or reminder-- I will, immediately throw away any candy, chips, or gum that I see.
Allergies
Please notify me of any allergies or health issues even if the office knows. A peanut allergy is life-threatening. I need to know if your child has ANY allergies. We do many science experiments involving different types of foods.
Estimados padres, madres, parientes,
Favor de disculparme de no haberles traducido esta carta. Estoy dispuesta a comunicarles en total, si me llame para atrás.

The following students need to go by the school and pick up the little school spirit bags if you want them (they don’t have that much in them): Essandra Andrea Donovan Avery Christian. If you did not get a bag you may go to the school and get one.
I’m going to finish delivering the School Spirit things this morning. We will have a class Zoom meeting today at 1 pm.
No Zoom meeting - Ms. Roh is still waiting on her phone repair at the phone store. This is her daughter posting the message. She will post a message when she gets home. They have told her it will be ready at 3:30 pm.
Hello my dear students!
Today is Monday, May 11th, Kindness Day
This week is school spirit week.
For Kindness Day you could design a postcard and write a kind message. Deliver or mail it to that person.
I will be delivering the School Spirit bags I couldn't deliver on Friday last week. Text me your address if you didn't receive one. They just have five little things in them - the school made them and I'm delivering them to you today (as soon as my phone gets fixed).
My cell phone battery is not working so I need to go to the repair place at 10 and get it fixed. This means no phone calls today.
However, on Friday, the class decided they would rather have a zoom meeting instead of calls. So we will meet as a class at 1 pm.
I will post the zoom code at 12:45.
Friday, May 8th
I will be back at the school in about 15 minutes so watch for our code in about 15 minutes on this website . Watch for our Kahoot time - I will post it at 12:45.
This will be a really important meeting - we need to talk about next week - our LAST week together and what we would like to do.
We also are going to work on a Flipgrid message for Mrs. Chandler.
The Flipgrid code for your message to her is: https://flipgrid.com/roh5692
She is retiring this year and will not be back in the fall. (PS I met the new principal - she seems happy and excited to be at Orchard).
Now some important questions for next week ONLY:
Do you want to continue having individual phone calls?
Would you rather have a class meeting on Zoom one time a day?
Would you like to do a final writing assignment on Utah Compose?
Other ideas or suggestions?
Thursday, May 7th
Love Potion Number Nine
I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down at 34th and Vine
Selling little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine
I told her that I was a flop with chicks
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"
She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna mix it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine and looked like India ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissing everything in sight
But when I kissed the cop down at 34th and Vine
He broke my little bottle of
Love Potion Number Nine
Wednesday, May 6th
Remember - no phone calls today - BUT here is a song to have fun singing along to:
Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air
In West Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys, they were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"
I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissing and she gave me my ticket
I put my Walkman on and said, "I might as well kick it!"
First class, yo, this isn't bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like?
Hmm this might be alright!
I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
License plate said "fresh" and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought nah, forget it, yo, Homes, to Bel-Air!
I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby "Yo, Homes, smell you later!"
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air!

Splish Splash
Splish splash, I was taking a bath along about a Saturday night
A rub dub, just relaxing in the tub, thinking everything was all right
Well, I stepped out the tub, put my feet on the floor
I wrapped the towel around me and I opened the door
And then a splish splash, I jumped back in the bath
Well, how was I to know there was a party going on?
I was a splishing and a splashing, I was rolling and a strolling
I was a moving and a grooving, I was a reeling with the feeling
Bing bang, I saw the whole gang dancing on my living room rug (yeah)
Flip flop, they were doing the bop, all the teens had the dancing bug
There was Lollipop with Peggy Sue
Good golly, Miss Molly was a even there too
A well a splish splash, I forgot about the bath
I went and put my dancing shoes on
I was a splishing and a splashing, I was rolling and a strolling
I was a moving and a grooving, I was a reeling with the feeling
I was a splishing and a splashing, I was rolling and a strolling
I was a moving and a grooving, I was a reeling with the feeling

Thursday, April 30
Look! Up in the Sky TODAY! At 1:05pm, fighter jets leave Ogden and head south across the state for a cool demonstration. They are honoring all of the doctors and nurses and medical people who are saving lives.
Make sure you READ the entire message for today:
This is a way people remember how many days are in each month:
Thirty days has September,
April, June, and November,
All the rest have thirty-one,
But February's twenty-eight,
The LEAP YEAR, which comes once in four,
Gives February one day more,
THE HARDER YOU WORK THE EASIER IT GETS!!!
This Is Me
I am not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
'Cause we don't want your broken parts
I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one'll love you as you are
But I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words want to cut me down
I'm going to send a flood, going to drown them out
I am brave, I am proof
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out because here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away because today, I won't let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades and
Reaching for the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that's what we've become (yeah, that's what we've become)
I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words want to cut me down
I'm going to send a flood, going to drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out because here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh-oh-oh-oh
This is me
and I know that I deserve your love
Because there's nothing I'm not worthy of
When the sharpest words want to cut me down
I'm going to send a flood, going to drown them out
This is brave, this is proof
This is who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out because here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
When the sharpest words want to cut me down
I'm going to send a flood, going to drown them out
going to send a flood, going to drown them out
Oh This is me
Wow. End of April??? Good grief! Well, I am going to keep meeting with you UNTIL Friday, May 15th. The following week will be Chromebook returns.
This means YOU need to KEEP WORKING every day. Spend that little bit of time each day on Imagine Learning Math and Amplify Reading. If you're a super HARD WORKER, you will commit to working on those programs all summer long so you are WELL-PREPARED for sixth grade.
TOMORROW - KAHOOT.IT Let's play!!!
Wednesday, April 29, 2020
Hello everybody!
Remember, no phone calls tomorrow - but, Kahoot games on Friday at 1 pm.
I hope you're having fun drawing your beautiful prehistoric creatures.
Here's a fun song for today:
When I was a little bitty boy just up off the floor
We used to go down to grandma's house every month end or so
We'd have chicken pie, country ham
Homemade butter on the bread
But the best darn thing about grandma's house
Was the great big feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
And soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty eleven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It could hold eight kids and four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed
After supper we'd sit around the fire, the old folks would spit and chew
Pa would talk about the farm and the war
And granny would sing a ballad or two
And I'd sit and listen and watch the fire until the cobwebs filled my head
Next thing I'd know I'd wake up in the morning
In the middle of the old feather bed
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
And soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty eleven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It could hold eight kids and four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed
Well, I love my ma and I love my pa, I love granny and grandpa too
I've been fishing with my uncles, I wrestled my cousin
I even kissed Aunt Lou, ew!
But if I ever had to make a choice I guess it oughta be said
That I'd trade them all plus the gal down the road
For grandma's feather bed
I'd trade them all plus the gal down the road
It was nine feet high and six feet wide
And soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty eleven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It could hold eight kids and four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed

The last week of school, May 18-22, will be used for Chromebook returns. This means we have only three weeks and three days until your summer officially starts. Well, this wasn't exactly how we planned it, but I want you to use these last three weeks and spend your time learning every day until summer starts.
What does that mean? Every weekday spend thirty minutes on Imagine Learning Math and thirty minutes on Amplify Reading. After that, enjoy your Utah Compose report - explore dinosaurs this week. Draw some beautiful creatures. Imagine what their exteriors looked like. Make them colorful!!! And then email me your beautiful drawings so I can post them on our class art page.
Have a great day today! I look forward to talking with you today. I look forward to listening to you read your choice out loud to me on the reading fluency page above.
FYI - NO PHONE CALLS THIS THURSDAY (April 30th) AND NEXT WEDNESDAY (May 6th) I have school meetings.
Monday, April 27, 2020
Howdeeee!!
Oh What a Beautiful Morning! (remember to start it at :35 seconds)
Please start each day off and set your timer for 30 minutes on Imagine Learning Math and 30 minutes on Amplify Reading. Exercise or dance in between but make those two subjects your daily MUST DOs.
This week we have the long-awaited report on PREHISTORIC CREATURES. Prehistoric means: Prehistoric Animals lived more than 65 million years ago and the only way we learn about them is through their fossilized remains.
I can't wait to see your artwork and your writing.
Here is the report on Utah Compose:
Choose a prehistoric creature.
Organize six facts - place three facts in each paragraph.
Write a brief conclusion for your third paragraph.
These websites will be helpful:
https://www.fossilera.com/blog/top-11-scariest-prehistoric-animals
https://www.activewild.com/list-of-prehistoric-animals-that-are-not-dinosaurs/
https://www.rd.com/culture/prehistoric-animals-extinct/
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up in the sky
Oh, what a beautiful morning
Oh, what a beautiful day
I've got a beautiful feeling
Everything's going my way
All the sounds of the earth are like music
All the sounds of the earth are like music
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree
And an old weeping willow is laughing at me
Oh, what a beautiful morning
Oh, what a beautiful day
I've got a beautiful feeling
Everything's going my way

Howdy peeps!
Today when we talk, we're going to review your math and language work.
Then I would like you to tell me three good things that are going on because you are at home all day.
Please draw a cheer-up card or message that I can post on the Class Art Page. Email it or text it to me and I will post it.
We will meet tomorrow at 1 pm. I will post the code at 12:45 pm.
Remember this poem:
It's easy to be happy when there's no cause to frown,
but the person worthwhile, is the one who will smile
when his sandwich falls jelly-side down.

I am going to have you work on certain pages with me over the next few weeks during our phone calls. But, DON'T STRESS!! Because...
GUESS WHAT??? Grades are no more this year! The only way you don't pass is if you don't do anything. And all of you have been working so hard on Amplify, Utah Compose, and Imagine Learning Math.
I am so PROUD of your HARD WORK!
Zoom meeting today will be short. It will be from 1:00 pm -1:15 pm.
There shouldn't be any password needed. Here is the meeting ID: 624-197-8315

Do you remember how important talk time was to me? It still is! Think about it! I am talking to you Monday through Thursday because I CARE ABOUT EACH OF YOU!!! I wouldn't bother calling if I didn't.
So. I am trying to set things up so we can play kahoots - I just haven't been able to set up a dual screen on my home computer - but it's coming! I pinky promise!
I LOVE MY AWESOME CLASS TONS AND TONS!!!!

Wakey Wakey! It was another earthquakey! And, guess what? Today was the scheduled day for an Earthquake Safety Drill with the entire state! It's called, The Great Utah Shakeout.
Why do earthquakes occur?? PLATE TECTONICS! Time for a science lesson today.
But first, let's talk about, what are the smart things to do before an earthquake ever happens?
1. Practice "DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON" with everyone in your home.
2. Always have a pair of shoes right by your bed. Most people jump out of bed and run around and might step on broken stuff.
3. Have some kind of emergency kit ready (your parents will know more about this).
4. Practice a safety drill with your family. Ask questions, review what your family should do.
So let's review what's smart to do when an earthquake happens:
1. If you're in bed, curl up and put a pillow over your head. Protect your head!!
2. Get under a sturdy piece of furniture and hold on.
3. Stay away from windows, fireplaces (if brick or stone)
4. Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you are sure it is safe to exit.
5. If you smell gas (rotten egg smell), get out of your house and go to your family's "safe spot."

SO. Yesterday, the Governor said school was out for the rest of the school year (May 22nd). Guess what? I'm still your teacher until the end of the year and we have our class until the end of the school year.
You will still work every day. You and I are a TEAM and we will talk every day at your appointment time. I will give you every opportunity to be prepared for sixth grade. You are going to walk into sixth grade in the fall and be READY for everything. That will take WORK. YOU can do it. You can do hard things.
THE HARDER WE WORK, THE EASIER IT GETS!
ALSO - I fixed Utah Compose. Ask me how to find the Mammal Report.
Big hugs my peeps.
Love,
Ms. Roh
P.S. You were in school almost 40 hours a week. Spending 30 minutes on Amplify and 30 minutes on Imagine Learning Math only gives you one hour a day on schoolwork. Do that for a MINIMUM. :)
Flipgrid.
Tuesday, April 14, 2020
It's so GREAT to talk with you each day. I love hearing about what you're doing.
Today, on our phone call, we're going to get you set up on Flipgrid.
Your Must Do List for today is:
1. Utah Compose - finish Mammal Report -Fixed the problem: go to the COURSE LIST and find the ONLY one that says "ONLY this one for writing."
2. Imagine Learning Math - 30 minutes
3. Amplify - 30 minutes
4. Draw your pet - then work on a funny pet story. Practice telling the story then share your picture and your story on Flipgrid.
Today we are going to choose one of the 36s pages above- see 36s math worksheets and read me your answers in a minute.
Remember this song?
Some people say a man is made out of mud
A poor man's made out of muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one morning when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said, "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one morning, it was drizzling rain
Fighting and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an old mama lion
Can't no high-toned woman make me walk the line
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me coming, better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you
Then the left one will
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I think we need to have a REALLY FUN writing/art activity this week. SO. First, please go to Utah Compose and research any kind of mammal. (Remember, next week is amphibians and reptiles, and the following week is anything prehistoric). Finish this writing project and do at least two draft submissions. Improve your score! :)
Now, on to the fun writing/art activity WE WILL DO THIS STARTING TUESDAY
We are going to use FLIPGRID.
Here is the activity:
You can have any animal you like for a pet. After you have chosen your pet, go to this really fun website for art called art hub for kids on youtube. Find your cool animal to draw and then pretend it's your pet. Then, make up a story about this pet. Tell it on Flipgrid - now, the whole class will be able to see your story.
Now, of course, every day I need you to spend 30 minutes on Imagine Learning Math and 30 minutes on Amplify.
BUT, when you're done with that, I want you to work on your flipgrid!
Today we are going to read Limericks:
There was a young lady of Niger
who smiled as she rode on a tiger;
They returned from the ride
with the lady inside,
and the smile on the face of the tiger.
Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today.
—Ogden Nash
There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared!
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!"
—Edward Lear
There was an old man from Peru
who dreamed he was eating his shoe.
He awoke one dark night
from a terrible fright
to discover his dream had come true!

Hello my dear class!
What a terrific day we had yesterday. Everyone is doing so well - working on Amplify, Imagine Math, and their exciting Utah Compose report. I can't wait to see your beautiful Creatures of the Sea report! Please email me your artwork when you have finished with it. You will be sharing your reports and your artwork on Friday with the whole class.
Please remember to READ EVERY DAY. I love to hear about the books you are reading.
I think, if everyone has a computer open, we should also be able to play a kahoots game too! We will be using Zoom on Friday - watch for the meeting ID Friday morning.
Our meeting will be at 1 pm on Friday.
Remember this song? I thought it would be fun to read the lyrics:

Hello Muddah, hello Faddah
Here I am at Camp Grenada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining
I went hiking with Joe Spivey
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got Ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner
All the counselors hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses
Now I don't want this should scare ya
But my bunkmate has Malaria
You remember Jeffery Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party
Take me home, oh Muddah, Faddah
Take me home, I hate Grenada
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear
Take me home, I promise I will
Not make noise, or mess the house with
Other boys, oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day
Dearest Fadduh, darling Muddah
How's my precious little bruddah
Let me come home if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me
Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that's bettah
Muddah, Faddah kindly disregard this letter

Hi peeps!
I have really enjoyed having a daily visit with each one of you. I am SO PROUD of your HARD WORK! I know it's tough, but spending time on your education every day helps YOU grow!
Today when we talk, I want to read your Utah Compose report and make sure you are going to correct it. Make sure you are spending 30 minutes every day on Imagine Learning Math and 30 minutes every day on Amplify reading.
Poem for today:
Sick By Shel Silverstein
“I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
“I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I’m going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I’ve counted sixteen chicken pox
And there’s one more--that’s seventeen,
And don’t you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut--my eyes are blue--
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I’m sure that my left leg is broke--
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button is caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle’s sprained,
My appendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow is bent, my spine ain’t straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--what?
What’s that? What’s that you say?
You say today is. . .Saturday?
G’bye, I’m going out to play!”

Please make sure everyone in class has somebody to talk to during the day. It can get pretty lonesome for some kids - reach out to each other - remember you have 27 friends in our fifth grade class. Also, don't forget America and Aldo just moved and they are probably feeling extra lonesome.

I love each one of you SO MUCH. And I miss you each SO MUCH. BUT I know that we need to follow the instructions to stay safe by not playing with other kids. I don't want anyone to get sick.
Love and air hugs,
Ms. Roh
Classroom supplies – DON’T BUY THEM!!!
We hope you’ll be able to attend any performances we may do formally as a class.
Science - Magnets, Electricity, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Erosion, Weathering, etc.
Social Studies - Explorers, American Revolution, the Constitution, Civil War, etc.
Questions? The long version of all of this can be found at www.graniteschools.org under curriculum
Math Standards Language Arts Standards
Homework:
I am not a fan of burdensome homework. HOWEVER, if your student is not at fifth grade level, they should expect drill pages to help them catch up.
Class Dojo:
Email me as soon as you like and I will add you to my class dojo for 2019-2020 class.
I am switching my website this year. My new website is Rocking the RohBoat
Field Trips
Granite Schools has a very strict policy about field trips. THE FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP IN THE PLANNER IS NO LONGER VALID. I must have a signed parent permission slip before we leave for every field trip. Parents may not give permission over the phone.
We have filters on all water fountains in the building. No need for water bottles – I do not allow them in class. Students may get a drink of water in our classroom at any time as long as they are not disruptive.
